In her book titled, Beezus and Ramona, Beverly Cleary brought to life the unforgetable character of Ramona Quimby. A series about Ramona follwed, securing her in the hearts of children everywhere.

I am so excited that our November/December 2009 calendar of events is available.  Be sure to stop by the West Palm Beach Public  Library’s  webpage and take a peek.  We have some cool events that will surely get you up, out, and moving! One of the events that I am particularly fond of is Monday Night Movies.  It’s a great family fun event that can become a tradition.  All movies are not suitable for the young ones, but if you have a few children that are in different age groups, you can always  spend time alone with each seeing a great FREE movie suitable for them.  Here are the list of movies for November/December2009:

Transformers (PG-13)   Nov. 2

Ice Age 3 (PG)  Nov. 9

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (PG-13) Nov. 16

Polar Express (G)  Nov. 30

Star Trek (PG-13)  Dec. 7

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (PG-13)  Dec. 14

My Sister’s Keeper (PG-13)  Dec. 21

G-Force (PG)  Dec. 28

It’s always better to read the book first, so be sure to check them out at the West Palm Beach Public Library or reserve them online through our Catalog.

The count down has finally come to an end! Fans are sure to be standing  in  long lines today to be among the first to see the new Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.  This is the sixth movie of the series based on the writings of J.K. Rowling.  It is the magical and suspenseful nature of this series that keeps fans wanting more.

When I think back to the first Harry Potter movie, I find it hard to believe that the magic began 8 years ago and the feature adaptations will cover a span of 10 years!  My anticipation to see Potter and his friends return to Hogwarts for another year is as if I have never read the books and I know this is the feeling amongst many fans.  Thank goodness there is still one more book that will be divided into TWO films!

The book-to-movie adaptations will soon end with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I and II, which are set to release in 2011.

For those who have yet to read the Harry Potter series and/or need a refresher, come check them out at KidSpace:

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Enjoy Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and be sure to send me your personal reviews of the movie.

Just in case you were wondering about some new DVD releases for children to view during the holidays, I found a list of top DVD releases for kids ages 6 & up.

For all the kids that are not in this range, be cool, you still might like them, and I will definitely have something for you next time.

The best part of this DVD list, is that KidSpace, @ the West Palm Beach Public Library, owns them all.  So come check them out and don’t forget the matching books on your way out:

The Spiderwick Chronicles (I absolutely loved this movie…the goblins were the greatest)
