WHO? WHAT? WHEN? WHERE? WHY?
IT’S FAMILY STORYTIME!
Family storytime introduces children to books, reading, and the library. Each storytime explores a different theme through books, songs, and fingerplays. Your child will meet a new friend this summer and get to know all about Max, the friendly shaggy dog. Miss Sarah will provide your child with stories as well as help them create a special project that enhances the theme of the week. She will model ways to make stories come alive.
Since this is a summertime activity for families, all ages are invited to attend. Miss Sarah will be sure to find something of interest for all children. Plus you will have an opportunity to meet other parents and children and interact with them in a kid-friendly environment.
There is no registration required, so feel free to come to as many sessions as you are able. There will be 16 weeks of fun in the large auditorium on the 3rd floor of the library. It’s free, it’s fun, it’s beneficial, and it doesn’t require a lot of preparation time. Just come and enjoy!
Family storytime will continue throughout the months of May, June, and July. They are held on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10:30. You may choose whichever day works best for your schedule.

Since I moved into a house with a yard, on the weekends I find myself puttering about outdoors. When we first moved in May, we pulled out about 150 non-native plants. After a bit of research and multiple visits to the Mounts Botanical Gardens, we put in a few native vines and trees.
I have taken an interest in hydroponic gardening, too. To date, we have built two hydroponic systems that hold about 50 plants total! I am growing various red and green leaf lettuces, tomatoes and of course collard greens and kale.

Needless to say, I love being outside. In South Florida we can spend almost 365 days outside, how wonderful is that? We are surrounded by a wondrous expanse of land filled with adventures. Here are some places on my outside adventure list:
1.) Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge
On Saturday, February 12 from 8am-4pm, the Refuge will be celebrating their 12th Annual Everglades Day with Foreverglades: A day celebrating and promoting awareness, appreciation, and
an understanding of the Everglades.
2.) Girls u Pick Strawberry Fields
I have soft spot for others trying hydroponics and I love strawberries. Pay attention to the plants at the top of the hydroponic systems, they plant various herbs. Grab a basket and scissors and you are ready to go.
3.) Vizcaya Museum and Gardens in Miami-Dade
Years ago, when I lived in Tampa, I drove to the Ringling Museum once of month. Vizcaya reminds me of the Ringling and I enjoy walking around the gardens of both.
The Mounts Botanical Gardens is beautiful to stroll through. I just love checking out their vegetable garden. The vegetable garden would be great places to have the kids’ guess the plant and what vegetable will it produce. If you are interested in starting a garden with kids, check out the library’s books on gardening with children.

Read for the Record, this Thursday!
We will be participating in Jumpstart’s annual Read for the Record this Thursday, bringing the community together to read Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats.
Visit us this Thursday, all day, to read the story and make a snowflake, and play in the snow!*

Animal Antics Back Again!

Animal Antics is taking over the West Palm Beach Public Library’s KidSpace, yet again! Animal Antics is a fun, interactive, natural history series provided in part by the Arthur R. Marshall Foundation and presented by their cool Education Director, Eric Gehring. If you are in K-3, join us on for this FREE program on November 17 & 24 @3:45pm. Get crazy again for Animal Antics! Check out last year’s Animal Antics here!
This year’s Animal Antics program is inspired by the book chosen for Families Reading Together Palm Beach County. The title of this book is going to remain a secret, so shhhhhhh, until the November 7 “Kick-Off” of this county wide, month long, awesome literacy event!
